It was beautiful sunny morning with the promise of an amazing day ahead. Until someone rammed into the back of my car when they failed to brake on time. Sigh. One fallen bumper and mild whip-lash later, Mr. T promised to take me to an awesome cafe to make my day better. So, we headed to our favourite spot in Perth, South Perth foreshore and we decided to try Mister Walker (Mr. W). Pictures of Mr. W's food on social media has been beckoning me and I couldn't wait to try for myself.
Seafood Gumbo ($32) |
By the time we arrived at Mr. W, I was famished, but still had trouble deciding what to try. Everything seemed so interesting. I finally settled on their seafood gumbo. I've never had gumbo before and this was the first time I've seen it on a menu so I thought this was not to be missed! Mr. T. settled on the scotch fillet steak.
I had to Google gumbo before the food arrived to fully understand what I just ordered. To my dismay, by the sound of the Google definition, I was in for a seafood soup with rice. I was expecting watery soup with pieces of fish and rice. However, to my delight, the gumbo that was served looked exquisite. The soup looked rich, it was reminiscent of a curry more than a soup. The taste was unfamiliar to me. Sure enough it did feel like eating a seafood curry, I particularly loved the oysters! I The fish was slightly under-seasoned, but everything else was tasty.
300g Scotch Fillet ($36) |
I secretly enjoyed Mr. T's scotch fillet steak more than my gumbo, especially the fries! The meat was actually a little over-cooked than the medium rare Mr. T ordered, but the beef was still tender. The béarnaise sauce made everything it touched tastes amazing and I wished there had been more of it.
After the ordeal of the car accident it was great to try a new café and enjoy the rest of the day. Mr. T and I enjoyed the vibe and views here and the service was impeccable. We thought the food was slightly over-priced for the size and some of the flavours could've been improved. Overall a pleasant experience.
Also, I'm happy to announce my car has been fixed and is back on the road, faithfully taking me for more food adventures!
