The Red Chair Cafe in Subiaco claims to serve the "Best Laksa in Perth". You know what? I think they're right! This gem was another find by Mr. T, who chanced upon this cafe whilst working at a client's office nearby. Ever since then, we've been back numerous times to enjoy their delicious Laksa Lemak.
Bun Thit Nuong ($13.50) |
To add a bit of variety into our lunch here, we decided to try their bun thit nuong. We were not disappointed by our decision at all! This Vietnamese dish consists of cold vermicelli noodle, topped with grilled pork, fresh vegetables and crushed peanuts. It also comes with a side of a specially concocted sweet chilli sauce to drizzle over and mix through the noodles. The result, an amazingly tasty dish! The grilled pork was tender and tasty through and through, and there was a generous amount of it! The sauce was the right amount of sweetness and acidity and the peanuts added a light crunch. This dish would be even better on a hot Summer's day.
Laksa lemak with Seafood ($13.50) |
Whilst the bun thit nuong was a very delightful dish, we still loved the laksa lemak more. For the laksa lemak, you are able to choose between chicken, beef or seafood and between rice noodles or egg noodles. This was the first time trying the chicken laksa with egg noodles. I, must say, the egg noodles made the dish even more indulgent, but filled me up too quickly! The chicken was tasty due the soup, but after tasting Mr. T's seafood laksa, I would choose the latter next time! The seafood laksa comes complete with fish, prawns, squid, tofu and tofu fish ball, which made for a much more interesting dish than the chicken. The soup itself is brimming with flavour and rich with coconut milk making it very thick and creamy. The dish also comes with a good topping of bean sprouts, adding freshness to an otherwise sea of indulgence! I wouldn't recommend this dish for everyday consumption, but for those once in a while moments.
Over the number of visits to Red Chair Cafe, we have tried their various Asian dishes and have been impressed with all of them! They also serve Western dishes and pre-prepared salads that always looks enticing. We would highly recommend this place next time you're in Subiaco and looking for a good feed! I would rate Red Chair Cafe 9/10.
