It is so good to be back in Perth! Especially just in time for Autumn and Easter Public Holidays! After being away for so long I've missed my closest and dearest friend, Mrs. M. We planned a catch up session as soon as I got back, researched which cafes were open on Easter Monday and made our way down to Kinky Lizard for our favourite mealtime, brunch. When we arrived, the place was already so busy! Fortunately there was still an outdoor table for two, so we grabbed a couple of menus and plopped our bottoms down.
Avo and Feta Smash ($16) |
Mrs. M chose the Avo and Feta Smash. So a funny story when I ordered this dish, on the menu it lists down the options of adding poached egg(s) for and extra $4 each. I actually didn't notice this option before I offered to order for the both of us so I didn't know whether she wanted eggs or not. So when I got to the counter the nice lady asked me if I wanted extra poached eggs, I panicked and said no. The lady looked confused, as if I was mad not to add poached eggs to this dish, so I caved and ordered one poached egg. The funny thing was, after all that, when the dish came... there was NO EGG! Mrs. M said she didn't mind the lack of egg, oh but her face said differently.
Anyway, the dish itself was delicious. There was a generous amount of avo and feta and it tasted amazing, really creamy and indulgent. I loved the lemon juice in it, making it really refreshing. I would say the dish, without any poached egg is substantial enough on its own. I felt healthier after just one spoonful.
Crispy Duck Egg ($19) |
I ordered the crispy duck egg. It was the most exotic sounding item on the menu, and it turns out this dish is quite popular as I was lucky enough to be the last person to get the last duck egg they had! This dish was really filling with all the asparagus, chorizo and large duck eggs in it. It was quite salty with all the chorizo in it, but eaten together with the egg and asparagus, it was perfectly balanced. The only disappointing thing on this dish was the poached egg was overcooked, so there was no runny egg yolk. I'm guessing that could easily happen as they had to deep fry the egg after they poached it. Also, don't worry I donated one of my eggs to Mrs. M!
I also ordered the lemon and mint ice tea for $5.50, but was disappointed because it lacked both lemon and mint flavours.
We ended up staying three hours at Kinky Lizard despite our earlier plan to just have a quick brunch as I still had to unpack and clean the house. Well I guess time flies when you're having a blast! I would definitely come back here to try their other items, especially to one day try their Culinary Artist dish, which is their special dish which changes daily. I would rate Kinky Lizard 7.5/10.
